HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Whether your blood pressure is high, low, or normal depends on several factors:

  1. The output from the heart.
  2. The resistance to blood flow of the blood vessels
  3. The volume of blood, and blood distribution to the various organs.

All these factors can be affected by the activities of the nervous system and certain hormones.

If the blood pressure is elevated the heart must work harder to pump an adequate amount of blood to all the tissues of the body. This can lead to kidney failure, heart failure, and stroke. In addition, high blood pressure is associated with coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, kidney disorders obesity, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and adrenal tumors. Blacks are more prone to having high blood pressure than whites and men in general are more prone to have high blood than women.

A woman’s risk rises after menopause, if she is taking oral contraceptives or if she is pregnant.

High blood pressure has no symptoms until complications develop, for this reason it is known as a “silent killer.” Some warning signs with advanced hypertension may shortness of breath, rapid pulse, sweating, headache, rapid pulse, dizziness, and visual disturbances.

Normal blood pressure for adults may vary from 110/70 to 140/90, which is normal, while readings of 140/90 to 160/90 or 160\95 indicate borderline hypertension. Any pressure over 180/115 is severely elevated.

TIPS FOR LOWERING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

  1. Eliminate salt from the diet. Canned foods are very high in sodium and should be avoided at all cost. Processed meats also fall in the category of high sodium foods.
  2. Lose any excess weight you may be carrying around. Even a weight lose of 10 pounds can make a difference.
  3. Moderate exercise helps to not only lower blood pressure, but also helps to reduce stress, anger and fear.
  4. Eliminate free fat, fried foods, mayonnaise, butter, margarine, all animal products, chocolate, etc.
  5. Eat less sugar.
  6. Eat a high fiber diet, at least 25-30 grams of fiber per day. Add 2 tablespoons of flax meal to your diet everyday.
  7. Eat lots of garlic, onion, celery and add cold pressed olive oil to your diet, daily.
  8. Eliminate coffee, caffeinated beverages, alcohol, cigarettes and alcohol.
  9. 10 minutes of early morning or late afternoon sun helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  10. Include live fruit and vegetable juices to your diet: a blend of celery, apple and apple freshly juiced is helpful.
  11.  These herbs are very helpful: hawthorn berry, fennel, chamomile, cayenne, black cohosh and parsley.
  12. Avoid stress and put your trust and faith in God.
