As we continue to study Bible
prophecy and the Three Angels Messages of Rev 14, we
saw from scripture that the everlasting gospel begins with the promise of a
sinless Savior who came in flesh and bore our sins so that through Him fallen
man could be restored to an un-fallen condition once again. By accepting His
sacrifice in faith and obedience to His Word, the victory won at Calvary would
become our victory and eternal life is possible through Him. This is the
unchangeable gospel (Gal 1:6-9, Acts 4:10-12) of our Lord Jesus. Rev
14:7 ...Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour
of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the
sea, and the fountains of waters.
The message of the First Angel continues with the call for man to both
fear and give Glory to God. But why should we fear God? Psalms tells us that
because we are mere men (Ps 9:20, 103:14), and His creation, we owe Him respect,
reverence and awe. God, like a loving parent, does not desire that we be
terrified of Him, but in love (1 John 4:18, Heb 4:16) we His children would
reverence and respect Him as Creator and Lord (Gen 22:2, 12).
We live in an age when much respect has been lost for one another, parent, neighbor and higher authority in general. How many times in life have we paid for movies or music that carelessly and profanely uses God’s name? Or heard others twist Holy Scripture to cover their sinful actions? Sadly, mankind has lost sight (Matt 24:37-39) of the coming judgment (when every deed will be called into account), and reverence for God has been forgotten. Yet, the Bible is clear, the fear of the Lord is to shun (depart) from the very appearance of evil (Job 1:8, 28:28) and walking in obedience to the Word of God (Deut 13:4). Friends this is our daily walk with God, were we cooperate with heaven and through the empowering of His Holy Spirit we are able to live a life of victory over sin and the ways of the world(Jam 1:12). Let us be on constant alert not to loose a reverencing fear for God (Prov 9:10, Ex 20) as this effects our very behavior. This takes us directly into the call of the First Angel to give glory to God.
When we have a reverencing fear for God we will seek to represent (give glory
to) Him in every area of our life (Jam 3:10-). In our bodies (1 Cor. 6:20), what
we eat (1 Cor. 10:31), in worship (Ps. 50:23), through our witness (John 15:8,
Matt. 5:16), etc. “By the first angel, men are called upon to "fear God, and
give glory to him" and to worship Him as the Creator of the heavens and the
earth. In order to do this, they must obey His law. Says the wise man: "Fear
God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Eccl.
12:13). Without obedience to His commandments no worship can be pleasing to God.
"This is the love of God, that we keep his commandments." "He that turneth away
his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination" (1 John 5:3,
Prov. 28:9) (Great Controversy, pp. 435).” Friends, the same Jesus that through
His Spirit empowered Abraham to keep God’s Law (Gen 26:5), is the same Jesus
that will do the same for all who humbly seek Him. As we draw nearer to Christ’s
return, let us not loose sight of those things which are eternal. Next week we
will continue to study The Three Angels Messages which were given in love to
prepare us for the soon coming of the Lord Jesus. Remember

in the light, as he is in the light...
